About Wybong Action Group
The Wybong Action Group Incorporated (WAG) is an organisation dedicated to the preservation, advancement and enhancement of the Natural Environment and the Communities of The Wybong and the Muswellbrook Shire by the defeat of the multiple threats posed to the continuing existence of the Wybong District and Muswellbrook Shire by:
1/ the Xstrata Mangoola opencut coal mine at Anvil Hill and excessive open cut coal mining in the Shire,
2/ the Sydney Gas venture drilling for large scale Coal Seam Bed Methane Gas Extraction in Wybong,
3/ the Ridgeland Coal ELA - taking in the remainder of Wybong from Manobalai Nature Reserve to Castle Rock.
4/ the Castle Rock and Rose Brook Mining Lease Assessment Areas - taking in the area from Castle Rock to Dartbrook and Mangoola.
A growing population cannot derive food or drink from land or waters degraded by Open Cut Coal Mining and Coal Seam Gas Extraction.

- Clean Food Chain , Maintenance of Bio-diversity,
- Impact on Native Flora, Fauna and Migratory Bird species,

- Destruction of Agricultural Potential, Social Dislocation, Human and Environmental Infrastructure
- Intergenerational Equity, Sustainability, Precautionary Principle...
We are committed:
- to the immediate cessation of the expansion of Coal Mining, Coal Seam Gas Extraction, Petroleumand/or Mineral Extraction in the Catchments of Wybong Creek, Goulburn River, Hunter River, Wollombi Brook, Liverpool Plains, Lake Macquarie and Wyong,
- to promoting the establishment by Government of a Complete, 5 yearly, Ecological, Environmental, Social and Health Audit of Coal Mining, Coal Seam Gas Extraction, Petroleum, Sand and/or Mineral Extraction (whether the activity be conducted singularly, in combination or in an area of cumulative impact based on Area of Cumulative Impact and Catchment Management Authority
- the (natural) cessation of all Coal Mining, Coal Seam Gas Extraction, Petroleum and/or Mineral Extraction (other than essential sands) within the Eastern Escarpment and Western Slopes Catchments (surface waters and otherwise
- the (natural) cessation of all Mineral and Sand Extraction within 1km of any ocean linked (surface or otherwise) water body and/or less than 10m ASL (high tide).
- to responsibly assessing the Ecological, Environmental, Social and Health Impacts of proposals that may cause detriment to the Environment, Ecology, Society and/or Health of the Wybong (and/or wider) Community,
- to promoting responsible solutions that minimise the detrimental Ecological, Environmental, Social and Health Impacts contained in proposals for Coal Mining, Coal Seam Gas Extraction, Petroleum, Sand and/or Mineral Extraction.
